system during visual tracking in children

چکیده
23 Motor skills improve with age from childhood into adulthood and this improvement is reflected 24 in the performance of smooth pursuit eye movements. In contrast, the saccadic system 25 becomes mature earlier than the smooth pursuit system. Therefore, the present study 26 investigates whether the early mature saccadic system compensates for the lower pursuit 27 performance during childhood. To answer this question, horizontal eye movements were 28 recorded in 58 children (ages 5-16) and 16 adults (ages 23-36) in a task that required the 29 combination of smooth pursuit and saccadic eye movements. Smooth pursuit performance 30 improved with age. However, children had larger average position error during target tracking 31 compared to adults but they did not execute more saccades to compensate for their low 32 pursuit performance despite the early maturity of their saccadic system. This absence of 33 error correction suggests that children have a lower sensitivity to visual errors compared to 34 adults. This reduced sensitivity might stem from poor internal models and longer processing 35 time in young children. 36

P58: Visual Working Memory Performance Based on Saccades in Children with and without Specific Learning Disorder: An Eye-Tracking Study
Some of the previous studies show that children with SLD have deficits in visual processing and working memory. Hence, the aim of this research was to investigate problems of visual working memory based on behavioral neuroscience method, using an eye tracker device. The method of present study was ex-post facto study. The participants included couple of twelve children with SLD (mean age=10.92)...
متن کاملApplication of eye tracking technology for screening and rehabilitation of children with special needs.
Eye tracking is a technology for measuring eye movements when looking at a point. The length of time to look at a particular situation, the sequence of observations, as well as points of attention are processed in the process of eye tracking and eye movements are identified by topics such as fixation, saccade, etc. Information about how the eyes move at a special moment has many potential appli...
متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Visual and Auditory Distractions on the Physiological Parameters during the Dressing Change Procedure in 6-12-Year-Old Children
Background and Objective: As pain impulses ascend from the spinal cord, the autonomic nervous system is stimulated and leads to changes in physiological parameters. This study aimed to compare the effect of visual and auditory distractions on the physiological parameters during dressing change procedure in children aged 6-12 years. Materials and Methods: This blinded clinical trial was conduct...
متن کاملAnalyzing Behavioral Markers of Autistic Children Using Eye Tracking Data
Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs in the early years of life and is characterized by social impairment, verbal and non-verbal communication difficulties as well as stereotypical behaviors. Rehabilitating autistic children at the early stages of growth, in which their brain is highly flexible, yields to enhanced treatment process and provid...

متن کاملVisual Attention to Print in Preschool Children with and without Hearing Loss
Children with normal hearing spend much less time looking at print than illustrations during storybook reading. However, these children are more likely to attend to print when storybooks have high print salience. Although children with hearing loss exhibit documented deficits in print knowledge, little is known about attention to print for children with hearing loss. The purpose of this study w...
